ABOUT THE ARTIST

ARTIST STATEMENT

Through loosely structured images and somewhat crude line work, Vikki attempts to convey her impressions of the human condition. Through drawing & paint, she tries to re-order and make sense of her interior and exterior experiences. Bold colour combinations are her addiction and she believes they are a language of their own, rampantly communicating mood and emotion. Vikki is interested in distorted, obliterated dimensions and likes what they say about the image. She will often flatten figures and shapes, in keeping with the two-dimensional paper or canvas. Simple, primitive, unaffected. Painting releases pressure from Vikki's restless nature and allows room for luscious bursts of peace. She is not concerned with realistic representation. In fact she is happiest when a painting achieves a kind of jagged, twitchy finish. As a child’s creation might.
