SOLO Exhibition "Fictitious Form" sells half out!!!!

An Opening of the Artist's works on paper was held yesterday at ARTE Funktional Gallery (Kelowna, BC CANADA) to launch a month long exhibition and enjoyed record sales! This is a first time SOLO event for this Artist. An excerpt from her Artist Statement:

"... I take a sideways look at figurative depiction, seeing past the accepted image. I allow myself to push the limits of realistic dimension and form. Coming from a non-representational practice, I like to counterbalance more careful detail with abstracted areas. I think about what the distorted, partially obliterated figure has to say; about our race collectively and how we choose to communicate."

More to paintings than brush strokes, colour and canvas

I feel that for the past few weeks I have neglected an art form that involves movement, expression, colour, with shapes and lines arranged in a harmonious correlation.
I’m talking about paintings; the type of art you hang on a wall. When I see a painting, it creates a conversation of energy inside my mind. I might not even have the words for it, but I know I am excited at first glance. Seeing the work of an artist is so much more than viewing paint on a canvas; it’s a story that I can relate to in the moment. Even a figurative portrait is a pocket of time that I stare at and imagine a story in. I love imagination and I’m excited as B.C. Culture Days approach.
While doing my research, a local artist came into my radar and piqued my interest with a series of paintings themed around the fantasy of Alice in Wonderland . Vikki Drummond has created a succession of abstract paintings with this fantasy theme. The stories of Alice are adored by all who read the books or even perhaps watched the films. We, as adults with pallets that are slightly more sophisticated, can celebrate our child-like imagination by enjoying this exhibition aptly named Visual Meanderings. Created by Vikki and represented by ARTE functional owner Carolina Sanchez de Bustamante, the pieces are on displays from Sept. 15 until Oct. 15. There will be an open house on Sept. 24 from 1-4 p.m., with the artist in attendance. Everyone interested is welcome to attend and if you would like to see more before you visit in person, go to; vikkidrummondart.com and link to the wonderland collection.
The gallery is at The Factory, No. 2, 1302 St Paul St.
